Team MP love military weddings, so we were thrilled when Kirsty and Phil asked Mark Pugh to capture their wedding at Rufford Mill on the edge of Rufford Abbey.
THE DAY OF THEIR WEDDING
Mark Pugh joined bride Kirsty and her ladies at the atmospheric Hop Pole Hotel in Ollerton, where they were putting the finishing touches to their bridal preparations. There was an air of calm over the proceedings, as Mark Pugh photographed all of the dress detail, shoes and general atmosphere of the preparations before setting-off for Rufford Mill, the venue for their wedding.
Upon his arrival, Mark Pugh found Phil and his RAF colleagues had everything under control. Phil and ‘his men’ were in their RAF No.1 uniforms and it is a military tradition that a bottle of port is consumed by the groom and his men prior to the ceremony; Phil and the lads were more than happy to keep this tradition going!
After a short wait, all of the wedding guests had arrived and were in situ, and Phil took his place at the front of the room to await Kirsty’s walk down the aisle, accompanied by her father and brother.
With their ceremony complete, the couple took a walk underneath the traditional RAF sword party. Mark Pugh then took the wedding party outside by the lake for a short series of formal group photographs.
He then jumped into the wedding car with the bride and groom to drive round the lake to the ruins of Rufford Abbey. As you will see from this incredible series of images, it provided the perfect backdrop for the Kirsty, Phil, the groomsmen and bridesmaids.
As with several of our recent featured weddings, the couple organised their own photo-booth, utilising unused doors taken from Kirsty's parents home. Props include items from their fancy dress collection and also some hand made items, and the photo-booth proved to be highly popular with the couple’s friends and family.
After a fantastic roast buffet, Freak Out!, the couple’s funk band had set-up and played-away whilst everyone partied into the night.
Kirsty and Phil are a lovely couple, and it was a complete pleasure for Mark Pugh to capture their special day.
Congratulations!
Their final wedding photography collection will contain 400plus images. However, we have decided to share 200ish firstLOOK image previews on behalf of www.markpugh.com, and these can be viewed below.
As always, enjoy.

ABOUT RUFFORD ABBEY AND RUFFORD MILL
Rufford abbey was founded by Gilbert de Gant, on 12 July 1147, and was populated with Cistercian monks from Rievaulx Abbey in Yorkshire.
The English Pope, Adrian IV gave the blessing for the abbey in 1156, following which the abbey's lands expanded and the villagers of Cratley, Grimston and Rufford, Inkersall were evicted. A new village of Wellow, just outside the estate housed some of the displaced people.
Between 1729 and 1845 many improvements were made to the Rufford estate. For example; the addition of the bath house, the creation of the lake and mill buildings, the construction of the brewhouse, water tower and coach house and also the addition of five ice houses.
Today, Rufford is a popular destination for visitors who enjoy a day out in its grounds including the lake, shops and restaurants. Rufford Mill offers a wide range of wedding options for couples.
